The surveyor is a specialist. He is the technician whose job is to check, to analyse and to assess.

For the non professionals
- helps and advises before the purchase or the sale.
- helps the assured when he disagrees with the insurance company.
- assesses the fitting-out, the inventory and the equipments.
- conciliates between saler and purchaser.
- settles a technical problem
- supervises the building work (new boat or new layout)
- as a technician he helps when there is a judicial survey.

For the professionals
- estimates the boats, objects, etc... entrusted to him for the building work.
- fixe the value at the Customs for the importation.
- advises regarding Customs, fiscal or maritime regulation.

For the insurance companies
- assesses a boat after damage.
- assesses a boat to fix the market value*.

For the financial companies
- fixe the boat value, the amount of the credit, the mortgage...

For the authorities
- assesses for the tax department and the lawyers.
- takes part in courts as a judicial surveyor.


*Market value : Most of the insurance companies guarantee the boats for the market value. It is the value of a boat on the market considering its features and the present economic situation. The companies usually ask the assured to show a out of survey report before insuring them. The surveyor will suggest a market value usually valid for at least two years.
